To celebrate our 20 Year Anniversary we’re releasing a series of VFX Breakdown reels for some of our favourite projects, giving a glimpse into the amazing work of our talented artists, technicians and support crews around the world.

1. Blade Runner 2049
What better way to start our new Breakdown series than with our work on Blade Runner 2049. This amazing film is currently in contention for heaps of awards, including the ‘Best VFX’ categories at the upcoming Oscars, BAFTA and Visual Effects Society awards. Enjoy.

2. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them

Next up in our #20YearsOfDNEG Breakdown series is the wonderful Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. In this welcome return to the magical world of J K Rowling’s imagination we got to build (and then put back together) a jazz age New York, conjure up magical flying creatures and bring to life the menacing and destructive Obscurus. We can’t wait for the sequel!

3. Ex Machina

Here’s a VFX breakdown of our work on Alex Garland’s low-budget sci-fi classic Ex Machina, which brought us our third Oscar for Best VFX! This latest breakdown video in our #20YearsOfDNEG series shows how the team enhanced Alicia Vikander’s incredible performance to create the alluring and beautifully realised android ‘Ava’ – a main character who needed to be both obviously synthetic and yet at the same time strikingly human.
